India has inaugurated a new airbase in Ladakh, close to the de-facto border with China in the Himalayas. Indian Air Force Air Chief AP Singh inaugurated the Nyoma Airbase in Ladakh this week, after landing a C-130J Super Hercules plane there. Located at an altitude of about 13,000 feet, the airbase is a mere 30km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which serves as New Delhi's de-facto border with Beijing. Not just that, the three armed forces — Indian Army, Navy and Air Force — also conducted a joint drill in the Himalayas, earlier this week. This comes at a strategic time — when India is trying to reduce the trust deficit with China, and the two nations are trying technologically driven ways to monitor the borders and avoid any conflicts.
