All right, hello, good morning, welcome to another episode of the Medicare ABCs. I'm Andrew Dalager with Heritage Insurance Group.
So today we're going to talk about a tough one: rejection notices. Rejection notices can happen with your insurance when you're on Medicare. So when enrolling for certain kinds of plans, whether that's a supplement and you're not guaranteed issue, the plan where you've got to go through all the health screening, or they have special needs policies that only apply when you have certain conditions. They also have special needs plans that only apply when you have certain income levels or assistance levels. When applying for those, sometimes an insurance company might need a little bit more information or they don't see the necessary information, so you might get yourself a request for information or a rejection notice.
If that happens, don't panic, read the thing in full, whatever the letter is that they send you, read all of it, and just promptly get them the information back. I've talked with dozens if not 100 plus clients that at one point or another, they were enrolling into a policy that was going to be really great for them, but because they got a request for information or a rejection notice that could have been fixed but didn't do anything about it, they wound up missing out on that coverage for the year.
So when applying for a policy, if you're going alone, when applying for a policy, just make sure you're reading all of the information that you get from your insurance company. And if they're requesting income documentation or a letter from your doctor saying, "Yes, you do have diabetes," or what medications you're taking, or confirmation from your doctor that, "Yes, this surgery was more than 2 years ago," whatever the things are, read it in full, get the information back to them as quick as possible. And I always recommend doing it in certified mail so you know they received it and you have a confirmation code.
When calling the insurance company, of course, this is one of those things that you can avoid by having an agent, but if you know, there are those folks out there that choose to go at it alone, just be very mindful that you're not skimming the information because rejection notices can have a huge impact on the quality of coverage that you're getting for that year.
Of course, if you have any questions, follow up on this one, you can reach out to me on heritagestrong.com or the phone number below, but any agent should be able to have your back on this one. Just make sure, like I said, that you're doing everything that they're asking so that you get the coverage you deserve. Okay, I'll see you guys tomorrow, take care.
