Steam has a simple, built-in FPS (Frames Per Second) counter that you can enable to monitor your game's performance. It's the most reliable and least intrusive way to see your FPS for any game launched through Steam.

Here's the best method to turn it on:

1. Open Steam Settings
Launch the Steam client on your computer.
Click on Steam in the top-left corner of the window.
From the drop-down menu, select Settings.

2. Go to the "In-Game" Section
In the Settings menu, look for the list on the left-hand side.
Click on the In-Game tab.

3. Enable the FPS Counter

In the "In-game" settings, find the drop-down menu labeled "In-game FPS counter."

By default, it is set to "Off."

Click the drop-down menu and select one of the four corner positions where you want the counter to appear:

Top-left
Top-right
Bottom-left
Bottom-right

4. (Optional) Use High Contrast Color

Below the FPS counter drop-down, there is a checkbox for "High contrast color."

Checking this box will make the FPS counter display in a bright green color, which makes it much easier to see against various backgrounds in different games.

5. Save and Play

Click OK at the bottom of the Settings window to apply your changes.

Launch any game from your Steam library, and the FPS counter will now appear in the corner you selected.
