If the notification of whatsapp application only is not visible on the home screen of your phone then what you do is go to "settings". Go to "Notifications". Then open whatsapp application and here what you have to make sure is you have to make sure that this option App icon badges, it is enabled. Also this option show notifications is enabled. Suppose if App icon badges is disabled and show notifications is disabled then what happens is if someone sends you a message then there will be no badge icon on this whatsapp application which will tell you how many notifications you have. Also if you pull the notification screen down there won't be any notification preview for whatsapp application. So you have to make sure that this app icon badges as well as this show notifications they are enabled.
