In a strongly worded statement released today, the Tarh Welfare Society (TWS) expressed its frustration with the Tara Aabh Multipurpose Welfare Society (TAMWS), accusing it of delay tactics and non-responsiveness that have prolonged the suffering of six individuals from Pan village lodged in Jullang Jail since 3rd February 2025.
The TWS accused TAMWS of failing to respond adequately to multiple communications regarding a joint conflict resolution effort. As per the TWS, attempts were made as early as 17th March 2025, when a letter was received signed by 34 members from Pan Village. Subsequently, an Executive Committee meeting was held on 22nd March 2025 where the urgency of the matter was affirmed, leading to the formation of a Fact-Finding Committee (FFC) on 8th April 2025.
Despite efforts, including a joint meeting on 11th April and instructions for a full FFC report by 18th April, the process dragged on. TWS claims the report was finally submitted on 25th April due to internal delays caused by TAMWS' FFC members. Even then, TAMWS President flagged the report as incomplete, lacking conclusive remarks. As a result, TWS’ FFC Chairman was directed to submit the concluding remarks independently.
TWS President further pushed for a meeting before 2nd May 2025, citing the urgent plight of the jailed individuals, yet no official response was received. A General Body Meeting was held by TWS on 17th May, and a press statement was issued on 18th May.
In today’s press note, TWS condemned the United Leil Tara Youth Federation (ULTYF) for interfering without understanding the issue and emphasized that the responsibility to resolve the situation lies squarely on TAMWS leadership.
TWS also reiterated the gravity of the 3rd February incident, alleging that Gyamar Takang was abducted, tortured, and that firearms were used by individuals named in their report. The group maintains that no Tarh clan member is involved in the violence and demands a clear public statement from TAMWS leadership.
TWS has now been compelled to approach the media in a bid to highlight what it describes as "delay tactics" and to call for immediate justice and accountability.
