From the commentators comments you can see how highly regarded Taylor was. The same team that spawned Hearns, Pryor, Leonard, Dokes, Howard, Tate and the Spinks brothers. Taylor was destined for greatness, at least until he ventured into a ring in Belfast in 1985 to face McGuigan.

There is no doubt Taylor was a very skilful, Slick fighter who was certainly capable of winning a world title. The resulting claims were that Taylor was weight weakened. The truth of the matter is McGuigan didn't give him a second. He was all over him like a cheap suit from the first bell. Taylor just couldn't deal with that pace.. he needed room to work, he wasn't given it. When you look at the names involved in this USA team it is a who's who of great champions. Taylor was in great company.
