In this sesson we were learning the difference between requests and demands and exploring important charateristics of requests in EC terms.

Use “Positive Action” Language

In EC we suggest to make requests using “positive action” language, positive in the sense that we request what we want the other person to do rather than what we want them not to do.

Make Specific Requests That Are Doable in the Present

In addition to using positive language, EC requests avoid vague, abstract or ambiguous phrasing and take the form of specific actions that others can undertake in the present.

Make Requests Instead of Demands

When we make a request, we’re also open to hearing a response of “no.” Demands, on the other hand, implicitly or explicitly threaten people with blame or punishment if they fail to comply with our request.
