The car was widely regarded as the most influential automobile in India, with about 2.87 million 800s produced during its course of which 2.66 million were sold in India itself¹. The car was exported to a number of countries in South Asia including Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka and was also available in Morocco and selected European markets, often sold as the Suzuki Maruti¹. The car was a four-door hatchback with a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout¹. The car had a wheelbase of 2,175 mm, length of 3,335 mm, width of 1,440 mm, and curb weight of 620–655 kg¹. The car had a maximum speed of 144Kmph+ / (89mph+) (F8B)Carb/MPFI 4-SPEED¹. The car had a MacPherson strut and coil spring front suspension and rack and pinion steering¹. The keys of the very first Maruti 800 were handed over to Mr. Harpal Singh, who won the ownership rights through a lucky draw, in an elaborate ceremony held in New Delhi on 14 December 1983¹².
