The moon is the Earth's natural satellite and the planets are satellites of the Sun. The first human- made satellite was Sputnik 1, launched in 1957. It started a revolution. Satellites now take pictures to help us predict the weather. They beam TV signals and phone calls around the world. They help us find our way on Earth and explore beyond our galaxy.
