This video shows the attempted assassination of a police officer during a routine traffic stop in Illinois. A Meredosia police officer stopped a pickup truck for speeding more than double the posted limit. During the stop, the officer observed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, the smell of alcohol, and an open container inside the vehicle.

When the officer noticed a firearm and ordered the driver to keep his hands visible, the suspect fled. What followed was a 38-minute high-speed pursuit across multiple counties, with speeds exceeding 100 mph and the suspect driving into oncoming traffic.

The chase ended in a crash, where the suspect opened fire and shot a police chief twice at close range. Officers returned fire, arrested the suspect, and used an improvised tourniquet to save the wounded officer’s life. The officer survived after extensive hospitalization.
The suspect later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to over 28 years in prison.
