The distinguished Romanian conductor Constantin Silvestri (1913-1969) stands alongside the other great orchestral maestros of the 20th century for his imaginative, impetuous and vibrant conducting. He had an international career before making his home in the UK where in 1961 he became Principal Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, raising it to international standards. A recent CD features splendidly colourful performances of music by Debussy, Ravel and Falla, whose ballet "The Three-Cornered Hat" provides two Suites derived from the full score. These were recorded in the Colston Hall, Bristol in 1966 and include "The Miller's Dance" from Act 2 heard here. (From ICA Classics ICAC 5182).
