While doing some work on a farm about an hour west of Bogota, Colombia I spotted what I later learned was a tarantula hawk (or tarantula wasp). I believe this one specifically is Pepsis sumtuosa. It will keep the tarantula paralyzed in order to lay eggs in its abdomen. The larvae will subsequently feed on the tarantula. Apparently the tarantula hawk has one of the most painful insect bites known. I wasn’t aware of this until later.
