Thick Kilt Hose Always Better for All Day?

What do you do if your kilt hose are so thick that it makes your shoes uncomfortable? Or you simply do not like how the hose make your shoes look?

There are many options for kilt hose on the market - some very thick such as handknit hose, or other high-end hose that have a good deal of cabling and thick nubby yarn. On the other end of the scale there are thin cotton hose - good for casual wear or for hot climates, but not as impressive looking. So how should you choose kilt hose for al day comfort when you wil be on your feet?
