This Friday (Oct 10) I have a new track coming out called "Slowly, Slowly".

One of the things I like to do with composing is write as much content as I can, as quickly as I can. Then let it linger and simmer and see which melodies stay with me the longest. The ones I can't get out of my head are usually the ones I try to flesh out in the months ahead.

The seeds of this piece started in August 2024. The tune lingered with me, but something about the basic "melody over broken chords" felt hallow this time.

When I revisited it this summer, I changed the key (down to D from E major), which opened up some new warmth it seemed to be asking for. A second voice emerged just below the melody, almost on its own, adding the movement and slight unrest it needed.

The piece itself asks me to slow down, to let my hands sink into each note in order to play it properly. Its title is inspired by Mary Oliver’s poem "When I Am Among the Trees", a reminder that slowing down reveals depths we might otherwise miss, that are right in front of us.
