On November 14th 1980 three friends were hunting in the George Washington National Forest in Rockingham County, Virginia when then stumbled upon more than they bargained for. About 100 feet off of a logging road along Kephart Run one of them men happened upon the skeletal the skeletal remains of an unknown female, buried in a shallow grave beneath a log and two rocks.

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Department was called and the remains were removed the the Medical Examiner's office in Roanoke, Va. Along with the skeletal remains, authorities discovered the badly soiled remnants of a silk slip, white stockings, four hooks from a garter belt, a heart-shaped necklace and a US dime with the date stamp 1964.

Authorities determined that the Jane Doe was between 5ft-5ft 5in tall, between 18 and 25 years of age and weighted between 100 and 125lbs. They hypothesized that she was killed sometime between 1965 and 1970 and buried in the isolated location. They do not believe she was native to Rockingham County and may have had ties to the Greensboro, NC area.
