Chickens using treadle feeder

The girls learning how to use the treadle feeder.

I first introduced the feeder 11 days before this was filmed. It has multiple settings so they spent three days with the feeder open all the time. That is, they did not have to use the step to open the lid. For the next six days, the feeder was on the intermediate setting, where the lid is half open and using the step opens it fully. This is their second day with the feeder completely shut and I’m pretty stoked with their progress.

Note: my girls are free range and only have access to the coop and this feeder between 5pm and 10am. I’d imaging this process would be accelerated if your hens were kept in their coop full time.
