In the course of its assault on Ukraine, the Russian military has intentionally targeted Ukraine’s cultural heritage as a key component of its assault on Ukraine with the goal of erasing Ukrainian identity.

Calling attention to historical and cultural objects in Ukraine looted, damaged, and destroyed by Russia’s war is critical to helping Ukraine protect its heritage and ensuring that justice can be served.

One such artifact, a bull figurine from the Mariupol Museum of Local Lore created circa 6,000 BCE that disappeared during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the destruction of Mariupol, has been newly named to the Antiquities Coalition’s 10 Most Wanted Antiquities list.

The addition of this object raises awareness of the Russian military’s destruction of Ukraine’s cultural heritage, and the importance of engaging the global community in the search for this object and in the protection of Ukraine’s museums and monuments.
