Full Coverage: Mercy St. Vincent Nurses Strike

TOLEDO, Ohio — Mercy St. Vincent Hospital nurses have been striking for more than one week and no negotiations have been according to the people I have talked to.

Commissioner Gary Byers: Mercy St. Vincent hospital nurses have been on strike for a week now and they have picked up another advocate: County Commissioner Gary Byers. I spoke to Mr. Byers in an interview and he stands by the hard-working nurses of Mercy Health and he has a clear message to Mercy Health and that is you can’t accomplish anything without talking.

Sunday | Strike Day #6: On Sunday, I spoke to a few nurses on strike and one of them had said "We have the same priorities: to take care of patients and help people heal." That is the main message many hold dear and another nurse I spoke too said "This is not what the nuns wanted when they were healing the sick and wounded." As well as "They have money and the only people getting decent healthcare are the rich and the people who aren’t rich are left working for their healthcare and they will die before they get decent healthcare."

Second Week: Today, I checked in with some nurses on strike and they say there are more cars today than there were yesterday and sure enough, they have been getting plenty of honks of support.
