It was a home run party at Progressive Field as the Chicago White Sox took down the Cleveland Guardians, 8-2, on September 15, 2022.

After a rain delay postponed a White Sox - Guardian match-up last month, the White Sox traveled to Cleveland for a make-up game against their A.L. Central opponents. With the White Sox trailing the Guardians in the division standing, the team took it as an opportunity to set the tone for their Postseason push.

And they did just that.

The White Sox crushed five home runs in the first five innings for the first time since June 30, 2021 against the Minnesota Twins.

Starting pitcher Lance Lynn threw 6.1 innings, with 6 strikeouts and limited the Guardians to 2 runs as the White Sox offense ran off with the lead.

With a 10-pitch at-bat in the 2nd inning, Gavin Sheets cracked a ball into right field for a 2-run homer and the first lead of the game. The next at-bat Andrew Vaughn hit a home run of his own, boosting the White Sox to a 3-run lead.

In the next half inning, Will Benson drove in the first run for the Guardians with an RBI double hit to right field.

Yoán Moncada answered the Guardians right back with another White Sox home run. It was an impressive afternoon for Yoán Moncada, going 4-for-5 and falling a triple shy of the cycle.

In the next inning, Yasmani Grandal hit his 5th home run of the season, putting another run on the board. Capping off the home run spree, Elvis Andrus hit his 14th homer of the season into center field.

Paired with an Andrus home run, José Abreu singled on a ground ball later in the inning. His hit scored Yoán Moncada, boosting the Sox to a 7-1 lead.

Making an attempt to close the gap, Amed Rosario hit an RBI single to score a second run for the Guardians in the 7th inning. Following the run, Aaron Bummer and José Ruiz came in as relief for Lance Lynn, combining for 1.2 scoreless innings.

José Abreu closed his night with another RBI single, slipping one more run on the board for an 6-run lead.

It was in Kendall Graveman's hands for the final three outs, as he threw 2 strikeouts over 1.0 innings to close out the afternoon match-up with a victory.

The Chicago White Sox are committed to changing the game, whether that is through on the field with a single play or off the field with our continued community involvement. With legends including Frank Thomas, Paul Konerko, Carlton Fisk, Harold Baines and Minnie Miñoso, to new stars including Luis Robert, Liam Hendriks, Tim Anderson, Yoán Moncada, Lucas Giolito and Leury García, the White Sox have represented our fans and city of Chicago since 1900, first at Comiskey Park and now at Guaranteed Rate Field, while also providing for the community by providing annual support of Chicago-based organizations through Chicago White Sox Charities. #ChangeTheGame #WhiteSox
