A deadly motor vehicle crash in Clarendon over the weekend has left several families in mourning. Among the victims was an 8-year-old girl, whose untimely death has left a deep impact on stakeholders now calling for immediate cultural change in how Jamaicans use the road.

Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), Dr. Lucien Jones, is warning that if no serious intervention is made, the country could surpass last year’s total of 365 road fatalities.

Dr. Jones expressed deep concern over the recent deaths of two children — the 8-year-old girl on Saturday and a 16-year-old boy just days earlier in a separate incident. He stressed that a dramatic and sustained cultural shift is needed to reverse the deadly trend on Jamaica’s roads.
