QM2 Breaks Her Lines in Civitavecchia 4th August 2023

While docked in Civitavecchia halfway through a Mediterranean cruise, a 60kt squall came up around 4.55pm, resulting in Queen Mary 2 breaking her moorings. Thanks to the skill of the bridge team, Captain Hall and the port, she avoided colliding with MSC Divina, a yacht called Opera (which was refuelling) or Norwegian Breakaway aft. MSC Divina and Norwegian Breakaway were due to sail at 5pm but left late. Once QM2 was secure enough, MSC Divina set off, with the Cunarder taking her place in the vacant berth ably assisted by the tugs. Norwegian Breakaway left nearly 90 minutes late. QM2 finally departed at 12.35am after being given clearance by the Italian Coastguard. The following is a mix of camera, phone and photos and various sound quality.
