The development of the F-35 began in the late 1990s, as part of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program led by the United States Department of Defense. The composite materials used in the construction of the airframe also play a role in reducing radar signature. With this capability, the F-35 can carry out attack or reconnaissance missions without being detected by enemy radar systems, providing a huge strategic advantage on the modern battlefield.
