How to choose what lumber size to make from a log using a portable sawmill is the topic for today's episode. I"ll also be showing you how to make sawing logs easier and why slab sawing is too much work. We all know that it takes some physical effort to make beautiful lumber from timber, today I'll talk about how you saw logs with less effort and saw logs more efficiently. Although I"m not a production sawyer, I do want to limit the amount of physical effort I put into sawing logs and so I"ll talk about the numbers of times a piece of wood is handled and how that impacts the efficiency of sawing as well. Check out the species of trees I prefer to use and what types of trees I use to build a house with on today's video. I'll also make mention of the lumber sizes that I often cut and how I determine when to cut each lumber size and why. With a bit of forward thinking and lots of prep work, I feel that my portable sawmill setup is pretty well-suited for cutting and keeps me from getting too worn out.
