"Wrapped Coast" was an art installation created by the Bulgarian artist Christo Vladimirov Javacheff and his wife, Jeanne-Claude, in 1969. The installation was located along a 1.5-mile stretch of coastline near Sydney, Australia, and consisted of over one million square feet of fabric wrapped around cliffs, boulders, and other natural features along the shoreline.

The project took over four years of planning and required a team of 17 professional climbers, as well as numerous volunteers, to wrap the coastline in the white fabric. The installation was on display for 10 weeks, and during that time, it attracted over 200,000 visitors.

The concept behind "Wrapped Coast" was to highlight the natural beauty of the coastline and to create a temporary work of art that would interact with the landscape. By wrapping the coastline in fabric, Christo and Jeanne-Claude aimed to challenge people's perceptions of their surroundings and to encourage them to see the coastline in a new way.

The installation was met with mixed reactions from the public, with some people seeing it as a bold and innovative work of art, while others criticized it as a waste of resources and an eyesore. However, the project was widely regarded as a success, and it paved the way for other large-scale environmental art installations in the years that followed.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude went on to create many other large-scale art installations around the world, including "The Gates" in New York City's Central Park and "Wrapped Reichstag" in Berlin. Jeanne-Claude passed away in 2009, but Christo continued to work on art projects until his death in 2020.
