Explained : Recent Indian Defence Exercises | Significance of Persian Gulf and Suez Canal ?

French aircraft carrier strike group (CSG) led by FNSCharles De Gaulle on a deployment in the Indian Ocean is set to make stopovers at Goa and Kochi in the next few days. The CSG operates Rafale-M fighter jets, 26 of which India is looking to procure and a deal is expected to be concluded in the next couple of months.
Deployed in the Indian Ocean as part of Mission Clemenceau 25, the French CSG, comprising the aircraft carrier FNS Charles De Gaulle, along with its embarked air fleet and its escort vessels (frigates and supply ships), will be making stopovers at Goa and Kochi from January 4, the French Embassy said in a statement. After the joint training in the region the CSG will proceed to the Indonesian zone for Exercise La Perouse, and then to the Pacific Ocean for Exercise Pacific Steller.
In October 2024, Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour visited India during which the two Navies carried out maiden exercise between the Carrier Strike Groups (CSG) off Goa coast from October 1 to 6.
