Whatever the weather, tomorrow (Saturday, September 7th) a group of brave and undaunted people will be the first to swim in the newly restored Cleveland Pools. Britain's oldest lido - on the bank of the River Avon and dating back over 200 years - has finally been put back into working order after a 18-year-long campaign to save it.

It's cost many millions to do the job, but thanks to funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund, B&NES, DCMS, Historic England and elsewhere - plus an incredible fund-raising long-term effort by the group of dedicated lido supporters, a long-held dream has become a reality.

I managed to get an interview with Paul Simons, the CEO of the Cleveland Pools Trust, a week ago but was asked to wait until this morning to release it for public viewing.

Paul mentions special heritage swimming days this month but, due to an unprecedented response the Lido is now fully booked for the Heritage Open Day on Saturday September 17th. That's both for swimming and general site visits.
