Why on earth do my chickens need a dust bath and in dirt no less...? If this is the question running though your head, keep reading.

Chickens maintain their feathers and skin and control parasites by dust bathing.

Using just 3 simple ingredients to make a powerhouse pest avenger that deters ticks, mites and lice from taking hold of your flock is very easy and effective.

In a container of choice, which can vary by the number of birds you have, it should be at least 15”x24” and about 12” deep.

I used an old tray from a yard sale... but you can use a sturdy box, old tire, galvanized tub, large wooden crate, or a child’s wading pool or sandbox. These all make the perfect dust bath.

WHAT YOU NEED:

• 1/3 of container with wood ash - this helps to suffocate parasites such as mites, lice, fleas and ticks.
• 1/3 of container of Diatomaceous Earth (link in bio with DE I use) - helps keep the chickens mite and lice free.
• 1/3 of container with regular old dirt - preferably dry… mine in this video was damp. However if that’s all you have at the time, it will dry, so no worries.

Mix together and let your chickens have an enjoyable bath
