Learning to roll a kayak is something that has been on my mind for weeks now. And the whole process got me super frustrated. A lot of frustration when learning a new skill comes from not knowing what you are doing wrong, so you can’t fix the problem. In this video I share my experiences and show how I finally learned to roll a kayak. If you're struggling with your roll or any other skill I also have some tips that might help you out!

Here are some tips to help you get over a learning bump, when rolling or learning any new technique!

#1 Film Yourself
Film yourself or have someone else film you in such a way you can analyze what you are doing.

#2 Go slow and step by step
Really focus on the technique, and not the result. Have your instructor or practicing buddy guide and support you so you can 100% focus on what is going on. This is how we ultimately figured out my stroke wasn’t the problem (which I was convinced it was) but I was hip snapping way too late.

#3 Change some or all variables
Try a different location, boat, paddle, instructor or all of the above. Change your practicing variables. This can literally help you feel out what you were doing wrong before and it might help make things easier for you.
