For any copyright, please send me a message.  The US and Turkey have reached an agreement to suspend military action in northern Syrian for five days.  Donald Trump confirmed the news on Twitter and said that "millions of lives would be saved".  According to early reports following a meeting between the US delegates in Ankara with President Recep Erdogan, the Turkey government got "exactly what (they) wanted."  US Vice President Mike Pence said Turkey had agreed to a ceasefire to allow YPG Forces - which are predominantly made up of Kurdish fighters - to leave Northern Syria.  A news conference with Mr Pence, Secretary Mike Pompeo and Mr Trump is due to start shortly, with more details expected.  Relations between the US and Turkey have seemed frayed since the Trump White House decided to pull American forces out of Syria.  Within days of the shock decision Mr Erdogan had ordered his troops to invade the war torn country.  Yesterday a letter sent from Mr Trump to his Turkish counterpart urged him not to be a "tough guy" or a "fool".  The correspondence, which was littered with exclamation marks, reportedly found its way from Mr Erdogan's hand and into the bin.  The US has faced intense criticism for the withdrawal of troops, which critics say gave Turkey the green light to launch the military attack.  In recent years, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) alliance has been a critical ally to the US in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria.  There are fears that the destabilisation of northern Syria could lead to a jihadist resurgence.  Turkey claims that the YPG is an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is fighting for Kurdish autonomy in the region.  The philosophy that underpins the groups 40 year struggle is the idea that the stateless Kurds should be afforded a sovereign state partitioned from areas in Turkey, northern Iraq and Syria.  Yesterday Mr Trump claimed that the PKK were "probably" a bigger "terrorist threat" than SIS.  "Now the PKK, which is part of the Kurds, as you know, is probably worse at terror, and more of a terrorist threat in many ways than ISIS," he said referring to the group which has been designated a terrorist group by the US, EU and Turkey.
