The discussion will focus on scaling mentorship programs like Emmanuel’s initiatives across Africa, using creative arts to bridge the digital divide, and providing policy recommendations for incorporating arts into educational systems globally.
Emmanuel Sskitto Kalule is the Founder and CEO of Faces Up Uganda, an NGO dedicated to empowering underprivileged children through creative arts and mentorship. With over 8 years of experience as a visual artist and painter, Emmanuel has established himself as a prominent figure in Uganda's creative community. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Fine Art from Makerere University, graduating with a second-class upper division.
Recognized both in Uganda and across Africa, Emmanuel was shortlisted as the only visual artist among the finalists for Top 40 Under 40 Uganda in January 2024—a prestigious award. He has also been nominated for African Youth Leader of the Year (2018) and Young Achievers Award in the Creative Arts, Film, and Photography category (2017).
Emmanuel is an alumnus of the Mandela Washington Fellowship 2024, a U.S. State Department-supported initiative established by former President Barack Obama. He is also a 2024 Western Union and Watson Institute Fellow, alongside being a member of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI East Africa) and the Bosch Alumni Network.
Eric Nkorerimana is a passionate community empowerment activist with a strong focus on improving the lives of rural women and youth. With a background in Social Sciences from the University, Eric has dedicated his career to advocating for social change, focusing on sustainable solutions that promote self-reliance and long-term empowerment. As an advocate for rural communities, Eric has successfully initiated various programs that address malnutrition, economic instability, and social exclusion. One of his most impactful initiatives involves supporting rural women in creating kitchen gardens, providing them with the tools and knowledge to grow fresh vegetables, which directly contributes to improving nutrition and enabling healthier communities. Eric's commitment goes beyond nutrition. He has been instrumental in helping vulnerable communities establish saving schemes, encouraging local entrepreneurship, and enabling the growth of small businesses. His work has empowered many individuals to break the cycle of poverty, build financial resilience, and strengthen their economic independence. Eric’s passion for change is rooted in his belief in the power of education, self-sufficiency, and community collaboration. His tireless efforts continue to inspire and uplift those in need, helping them realize their potential and create a more prosperous future.
Tumaini Fasso is a passionate youth climate activist from Tanzania, dedicated to empowering children and youth to take action on climate change. As the Founder and Team Leader of the Child & Youth Empowerment Organization (CAYEO), Tumaini works tirelessly to inspire and mobilize the younger generation to engage with environmental sustainability and climate activism.
At CAYEO, Tumaini leads innovative initiatives, such as organizing birthday tree planting campaigns where children celebrate their special day by planting trees, fostering a sense of responsibility for the environment from a young age. Tumaini is also spearheading the creation of a children’s climate book, aiming to educate and inspire young minds about climate change and the actions they can take to protect the planet.
Thato Angelina Gabaitse, International Development Coordinator, We, The World, is a dynamic entrepreneur and philanthropist dedicated to transforming communities through sustainable agriculture. As the Founder and Director of Lemon & Vinegar (PTY) LTD, based in Gaborone, Botswana, she leads the distribution of agricultural produce, machinery, and equipment, ensuring farmers have access to essential resources.
With six years of hands-on experience in livestock and rain-fed crop management, Thato is also a qualified horticulture enterprise manager, providing expert consulting services to aspiring farmers and agribusinesses. Her work is deeply rooted in fostering strategic partnerships and engaging stakeholders to develop impactful programs that address social constructs such as age, gender, and race.
