Accumulating data supports the value and feasibility of ultra-long term EEG home monitoring in patients with epilepsy to identify electrographic seizures. By monitoring patients for a matter of months, rather than short term in-hospital recordings, a better idea of true seizure burden and treatment effect can be gained. The field of ultra-long term subcutaneous monitoring is young and it remains to be seen if objective seizure counting translates to detectable clinical benefits for patients with epilepsy. Jonas Duun-Henriksen, PhD, UNEEG medical A/S, Lillerød, Denmark, highlights spatial resolution limitations brought about by the need for an unobtrusive device in the long-term setting. A number of ongoing investigations are aiming to further elucidate for promise of ultra-long-term insights in the future management of epilepsy.
