I have this really old Ryobi miter saw. I was cutting some trim and noticed that the blade brake stopped working and there were some really large sparks coming out the end. The motor case was also very warm to the touch. I checked the brushes and found the they had burned points on the end, even though they were not very worn. I was not able to find exact replacement parts as this model has been discontinued. I did source some that looked like it would work. Once they arrived, I noticed they were about the same size and length. I installed and the brake started working, but the sparks were still present. I later tried a longer run time and found the sparks too large and decided to replace this saw. Even though it is not the outcome I wanted, It is not worth it to me to spend any more time or money trying to fix this old saw. I have been eyeing a 12 inch sliding for the last year and will pick one up to replace this unit. The brushes are very simple to replace and took no time. Maybe replacing brushes will fix your unit, it just didn't for me.
