Last week, I briefly introduced the US patent of missed telephone call management. This week, I will mainly focus on introducing and analyzing claim #1 in the patent. Claims are the most important element in the patent so I will take a more considerable time in analyzing the claims.

The first claim mainly explains three different actions that the user can take toward the current character string displayed on the touchscreen itself. The actions basically cover most action that one user would perform on any smartphone nowadays. Therefore, it's very easy for Apple to file a lawsuit against any companies and say that they infringed on this patent. The character string or display can mean so many things and it can cover so many things, not only string for missed telephone call, but string for many other things as well, which is why this is a very strong patent behind Apple. It's such a common sense technique being covered here and Apple is trying to use as much details and ambiguity at the same time to make sure they can protect this strong patent.
