It’s hard to tell how history will look back on the moment we’re living through now, but it feels fair to say that 2020 has already been a year like no other. In the midst of a global pandemic and national conversations on white supremacy & police brutality, the movement for Black lives has exploded. And, as it was at the Stonewall riots of 1969, queer and trans people of color are at the forefront - painting a picture of what their thriving community can look like. Literally!

Join Nic Gitau, President of Geeks OUT and Steering Committee Member of Flame Con - the world’s largest LGBTQ comic con, in conversation with illustrators Kae Goode and Colin Laurel, as they discuss how art can build a movement.
Panelists

Kae Goode (They,she) is a Black Fat Trans femme Digital Artist, writer, and overall interdisciplinary artist. Kae is a New Jersey native that is currently based in Atlanta. Her work illustrates art that centers Black liberation, Healing, and an overall future where All Black people are free from fear. Currently she is using her art as a tool to education people and dismantle systems meant to oppress and harm marginalized communities. She believes that when you center those who are furthest proximity to power we can all achieve liberation

Colin Laurel (he/him, they/them) is a black trans illustrator based in Portland, Oregon. Influenced by themes of music, identity, nature, and mythology, he depicts a world where black and trans wellness is at the forefront of our society. Colin hopes that his work will inspire queer and marginalized communities to explore creative forms of self-love.
