Iran has unveiled a state-of-the-art missile defense system designed and manufactured by experts at home as the Islamic Republic marks National Defense Industry Day روز ملي صنعت دفاعي ايران.

The surface-to-air missile system, dubbed Bavar-373 باور سيصد و هفتاد و سه, was unveiled during a ceremony on Thursday morning in the presence of President Hassan Rouhani حسن روحاني, Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami سرتيپ امير حاتمي and other senior military officials.

Bavar-373 is a mobile missile defense system designed to intercept and destroy incoming hostile targets. The system employs missiles that have a maximum range بيشينه برد موشك ها of 300 kilometers (186 miles).

The system is capable of simultaneously detecting up to 300 targets (شناسايي سيصد پرنده), tracking 60 targets at once (رهگيري شصت هدف) and engaging six targets at a time (درگيري با شش هدف همزمان), system is able to fire two missiles for every single target (دو موشك براي هر هدف). It simply means 12 missiles for six targets at the same time (شليك و هدايت دوازده موشك براي شش هدف).

According to the Iranian defense chief, “With this long-range air defense system, we can detect ... targets or planes at more than 300 km (186 miles) رديابي در سيصد كيلومتري, lock it at about 250 km (155 miles) قفل روي هدف ها در دويست و پنجاه كيلومتري, and destroy it at 200 km (124 miles) نابودي هدف ها در دويست كيلومتري at 27 km (16.7 miles) altitude در ارتفاع بيست و هفت كيلومتري.”

The system - which is compatible with the Sayyad family of missiles موشك هاي خانواده صياد - is also equipped with four vertical launching systems (VLS پرتابگر ايستاده عمودي موشك) capable of hot launching missiles.

Bavar 373 has two search and intercept radars, which can resist electronic warfare and electromagnetic bombs. In addition, the radars are capable of detecting anti-radiation missiles (ARM توانايي رهگيري موشك هاي راداري) that are used to confront air defenses.

‘US pressure only made Iran stronger’

Iran’s defense chief also delivered a speech at the event, saying the country has made great breakthroughs in all areas of defense in defiance of American sanctions.

He said that Iran has managed to produce “effective systems not only to counter aerial threats at…low, medium and high altitudes, but also to detect, track and destroy radar-evading aircraft and missiles from a safe distance.”

On Iran’s missile program, Hatami said, “We focus on the effectiveness of missiles through increasing precision, maneuverability, speed and conventional explosive power to overcome the enemy’s defense systems,” said Hatami.
