This is an introductory video for a Hexagonal (Honeycomb/Radial) HexGrid generator NodeGroup setup created with Geometry Nodes for Blender 3.1+

Salient features of the Node Group setup are:
outputs Curve Grid as default. Unmute (shortcut M) 'Fill Curve' to convert into Mesh Instances.
set Hexagon (Curve Circle) radius (HexagonRadius)
set no. of Rings
two modes for adding Gap between Hexagons(GapValue & GapScale). GapScale works for mesh only i.e. after unmute (shortcut M) 'Fill Curve'.
Unmute 'Realize Instances', 'Merge by Distance' to convert & optimise Mesh with Instances to single Mesh. Unmute 'SplitEdges' if required.
'Set Material' to individual instance or final Mesh.
instance Mesh (Hexagonal) Cylinder instead of Curve (Hexagon) Circle.
full functionality of 'Instances on Points' node.
