The United States has vetoed the United Nations Security Council’s draft resolution calling for a ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access in Gaza.

US Ambassador to the UN Dorothy Shea said, “We would not support any measure that fails to condemn Hamas and does not call for Hamas to disarm and leave Gaza."

The remaining 14 council members voted in favour of the draft document which had demanded “an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza respected by all parties’’.
