China ‘punishes’ Taiwan with military drills | US: Palestinian recognition deepens Israeli isolation

▷ China has launched what it calls ‘punishment’ military drills around Taiwan, in response to what it's labelled the island's ‘separatist acts’. The action comes just three days after the inauguration of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te, who has been labelled a 'dangerous troublemaker' by Beijing.

▷ The United States says it is concerned about Israel’s growing diplomatic isolation after Norway, Spain and Ireland announced plans to recognise a Palestinian state. Pressure on Israel's government is also coming from within, with hostage families releasing footage of their female relatives being abducted on October 7 in a fresh bid to push for their freedom.

▷ Brits will be heading to the polls on July 4 after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced a general election. The Conservative leader said voters need to decide if they want to “risk going back to square one”. Labour leader Keir Starmer has responded by declaring the UK is ready for ‘change’.
