Contamination during pressure calibration can introduce measurement errors, damage internal components, and transfer debris into calibration standards. Pressure gauges and sensors frequently contain water, oil, solid particles, or vapors that are released back into calibration plumbing when pressure is reduced.

The optional 6270A Contamination Prevention System (CPS) provides an integrated solution for contamination control when used with the 6270A Modular Pressure Controller/Calibrator. Unlike conventional filters or liquid traps, the CPS maintains unidirectional flow away from the pressure controller, ensuring clean, dry gas flows to the device under test while contaminated gas is routed out of the controller plumbing.

The system combines active valve control, a gravity sump, and a two-stage filtration process to capture liquids, particles, and airborne vapors during depressurization. When pressure is reduced, venting is redirected through the CPS rather than back through the controller, preventing contaminants from re-entering the calibration standard.

Operation is fully automated once enabled through the controller interface, providing continuous protection for every calibration point without relying on operator technique. Contamination is collected in the purge bottle, protecting the pressure controller, the device under test, and overall measurement quality.

The Contamination Prevention System is designed to safeguard pressure calibration equipment, reduce downtime, and maintain long-term measurement integrity in demanding calibration environments.
