Dr.Ahsan Qavi CEO Sindh Healthcare Commission was the next speaker who spoke of quality of care which he opined was everyone’s responsibility. Patent care is based on quality of care. He was very critical of the news regularly appearing in the media alleging that the patient died as the doctors used a poison injection. I have failed to find out such an injection in the market, he remarked. Cost of care also depends on quality. First No Harm to the patient, safety, efficacy and efficient care are some of the important segments of quality of care. Sindh Health Care Commission has been promoting provision of quality care. It is important that quality care team makes decisions based on knowledge, provides fair opportunity to all. It must be ensured that nothing is missing which will affect quality of care.

Medical Errors has emerged as the third leading cause of deaths. WHO calls for reducing patient harm in care. It is reported that about five patients die every minute because of lack of quality care in the world. Most of these deaths, he opined, are avoidable. Troubles for the doctors are increasing in every country. He also referred to unsafe surgical care and how to use mobiles safely and effectively. We must try to reduce the medical errors and it is high time that we include provision of quality of care in the training programmes. Patient safety is not taught in our medical colleges. There is no emphasis on patient communication and end of life issues. Medical Students do not know about infection control. Doctors are worst stake holders in control of infections. They should show it during ward rounds. One should not depend on guidelines all the times, he remarked.
