if you go out to hike, think about the fact that most people are driving somewhere to go for a walk. Now, i get that there are some pretty special places in the world worth going the extra distance for, but most people don't do it any other way, if they do it at all. Most of the time, i hike from home. This is one of my excursion hikes where i have other things to do that involve waiting, so i hike from where i happen to be. Still, some days there is a real motivational struggle there. it is freaking cold, or raining, or snowing, or sore out and you have to make yourself go. this was one of those days. i put on about six core layers, then a couple of more when i got there. it was warm enough, but a little reminiscent of a christmas story. Sometimes you have to suck it up, tell yourself it is for the greater good, physical fitness, shutting up the doctor or whatever else motivates you, then dress up as the marshmallow man and start walking.
