This video uncovers the lesser-known and heartbreaking story of Shakuni’s life. His sister Gandhari was born with a Manglik dosha, meaning her marriage would bring death to her husband. To nullify this curse, she was first married to a goat. When Dhritarashtra found out, he imprisoned Gandhari’s entire family, giving them barely enough food to survive.

In the prison, Shakuni’s father gave his share of food to his son so he could live and fulfill a vow — to bring about the destruction of the Kaurava dynasty. Shakuni carved dice from his father’s bones and used them to set in motion the events that led to the great war of Mahabharata.

But he did all of this not out of selfishness, but out of loyalty and devotion to his father. And that is why, according to some versions of the story, Shakuni was granted a place in heaven.
