In Chicago, Illinois, 1989 the television station WMAQ owned by the NBC network did it’s regular sign off before going offline for the night, but at the end of this particular sign off, something strange happened. The video cut to a black and white image of a missing person with the name Joanna Lopez. Missing person’s cases were not super uncommon during this time, but seeing it on TV in complete silence was. To make it more interesting, there was little to no information given about who the woman was, other than her name and an image that was too blurry to make out any details. So who was this woman? Well that is the strange part, no information on her could be found. Despite the three decades worth of research with thousands of individuals, we still are uncertain if she was even real to begin with. This is the story of Joanna Lopez, The Missing Person who doesn’t exist.
