This is the fourth video of the hoof lifting sessions I'm doing with Paddy the mini donkey.

I'm focusing on helping him feel good about offering to lift his hoof. As you will see, he understands how to lift it, I've trained that, but now I'm helping him feel better and safer about doing it.

I'm focusing on his emotion and creating a positive emotional association with this behaviour, the cue and myself.

The reason I'm having to re-visit this is because he's had a break from regular consistent training over winter. He tends to regress in his training after substantial breaks, due to his fearful nature.

I also thought this would be interesting and helpful to people who are struggling at this stage of their hoof lift training.

It's important to point at that there are many training steps prior to this and many to follow. This is simply a snapshot of what we are doing at the moment.

I could go a lot quicker with him, but I prefer to take the time to ensure he's enjoying the training, not just tolerating it.

You can see more great improvement in this session, with many more comfortable voluntary hoof lifts.
