Season 8, Episode 4: A deadly house fire in Boise, Idaho, claims the lives of Randy Row and his two young stepchildren. Fire Chief Doug McGru and Coroner Susan Williamson reveal that the fire was a triple homicide caused by heavy petroleum distillate. Detectives Gary Rainey and Ken Smith focus on the wife and mother, Robin Row, and find multiple life insurance policies and use a secretly recorded conversation with her friend, Joan McHugh, to destroy her seemingly solid alibi. Later, in Yolo County, California, Detective Larry Czechini searches for missing 18-year-old Nick Howard, whose car is found in the Sacramento River. Early clues point to an accident or staged disappearance to collect on an £850,000 life insurance policy. However, the discovery of Nick's body and forensic analysis by Dr Brian Peterson, along with reconstruction by car expert Charles Radford, reveal that his friend and beneficiary of the policy, Ralph Marcus, committed a brutal murder.

The New Detectives is an American docudrama in which renowned criminal investigators and forensic experts solve a variety of interesting cases.
