What's that in his eye? - Episode 08

Illiesta is a 9 years old KWPN Warm Blood horse. The owner complained about spooking while she tried to ride him. Spooking is usually noticed when the animals are scared of something. That’s when we were called in for examination.

Illiesta was diagnosed with a free floating Iris cyst in his left eye. Iris cysts are fluid filled balls which arise from Iris epithelium and tend to grow in size. Though they are not painful but a free floating cyst can certainly scare a horse because they feel that something is on their eye. Sometimes if these cysts become too big and can lead to secondary glaucoma, pain or even vision loss.

The best way to treat an Iris cyst is to pop them open with diode laser just like Dr. Kasturi is showing in this video.
