YANCEY COUNTY, N.C. -- A Yancey County man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of a neighbor's dog.

30 year old Jonathan Killian of Burnsville is accused of misdemeanor cruelty to animals.

The family says they found their pet "Bandit" dead in the woods, near where Killian had been hunting in a deer stand.

Bandit was a two year old Border Collie-Australian Shepherd mix.

Deputies tell us the district attorney will now get the case, and has the ability to raise the charge to a felony.

Killian posted a $1,000 bond Saturday night and was released.

He is set to appear in court January 13th.
