John Wilson 'Hooray for Hollywood' Overture

Описание к видео John Wilson 'Hooray for Hollywood' Overture

John Wilson's annual visits to the Proms in London's Royal Albert Hall featured a tribute in his 2011 programme to the great movie musicals of the past. The concert included many popular show-tunes and began with a sparkling overture of John Wilson's own devising - a sequence of hit numbers that commenced with George Gershwin's "Swanee," a song forever associated with Al Jolson. The 'Hooray for Hollywood' Overture kick-started a concert superbly played, as ever, by a top-flight orchestra of hand-picked musicians.

In response to a comment down below, here is the complete sequence of tunes: (a) George Gershwin "Swanee"; (b) Harry Warren "Lullaby of Broadway"; (c) Rudolf Friml "Indian Love Call"; (d) Jerome Kern "Can't Help Singing"; (e) Jerome Kern "Long Ago and Far Away"; (f) Frank Loesser "Guys and Dolls"; (g) Sherman Brothers "Chim Chim Cheree"; (h) Richard Whiting "Hooray for Hollywood". The announcer refers to Johnny Mercer but he wrote the lyrics for that last song, not the music.
