Zirconia is in the family of Porcelains. Okay? But it's a harder material and it's a stronger material.

Sometimes patients ask us, eh, if, why do we use zirconia not porcelain? It's important to know that when we divide the different type of materials in dentistry we have, eh, the older techniques that is a metal framework with porcelain attached to that framework that was called or is called porcelain fused to metal crowns.

And there's the porcelain family. In the porcelain family, there are many types of different porcelains. Zirconia is in the family of porcelains, okay? But it's a harder material and it's a stronger material if we use what the patient perceives as porcelain. Uh, the porcelain is quite brittle, so, there's no, they have been a development.

Of a, porcelain that is strong enough to support a full arch, uh, made out of porcelain without breaking the advantage of that has the Zirconia is that it is. Or the newest Zirconia that is very esthetic. And, uh, we can do everything in one unit, uh, which makes the result esthetically and functionally, uh, to be much better.
