Tropes That Make Me Want to Throw A Book

Описание к видео Tropes That Make Me Want to Throw A Book

They say there are no new ideas under the sun, and to an extent, that's true. It's mostly the way in which we order these things that makes a story unique, the approach to an idea, or the tone used that makes the story unique or entertaining.

That, and how the author uses tropes.

Tropes are unavoidable in stories. Sometimes it's a line of dialogue ("I thought you'd never ask"), or a common experience (found family).

Some tropes are awesome. They'll make me pump my fist in the air and squeal with joy. I do a happy dance, and I know they world is not all bad.

These are not those tropes.

Today, we discuss some tropes that fill me with such rage, it's almost enough to make me hurt something. These are the tropes that I cannot stand to see, ones that are more likely to make me set the book on fire than finish reading it.

They're also tropes you likely won't see in my own novel. I might try them, if I can justify it in my story, but considering how much I hate them, it's unlikely.

Some of these are more cliche than trope (it's a subtle difference, and I can't always tell them apart), but regardless of what they're called, I hate them.

You might like them, and that's fine. They're common in books because some people enjoy those story lines. I'm sure there are tropes you hate that I enjoy.

This video is meant in good fun, so don't take it as an attack on your character if I mention a trope that makes you get the warm fuzzies.
